But chances that he could be charged of defilement, or ‘full-dosing’ a minor at that, remains at the mercy of the police surgeon. This is because the girl is feared to have taken ‘too’ long to report the matter and hence, evidence likely to have vanished.
Also husband to celebrated TV persona Tendo Tabel aka Titie of NBS’ Titie’s Show, Katongole was arrested yesterday evening at Bweyogerere Total filling Station.
Quoting police file number CRB 07/15 of Bweyogerere police, Detective sources confirmed that Katongole’s arrest followed a disagreement between him and the relatives of his alleged defilement deeds’ victim.
Details indicate that Katongole committed the offence during the morning hours of 22/12/2014, in a Kaleerwe-premised lodge, 18 days after which the case was reported on Saturday (January 10th 2015).
It all started that morning when, Katongole encountered the little gal (names withheld) at a taxi stage, along with her sister in Bulenga. Katongole is reported to be neighbors with his victim.
At the stage, he pulled up and offered to give the duo a lift. However, the girl’s sister informed him that actually, she had accompanied her, only to help her board a taxi to Bweyogerere where, she was visiting their brother.
Sensing her sister was in the right hands of a public figure, the sister went back home and called the waiting brother to inform him of the girl’s movement to his place. But Katongole had reportedly developed a different idea.
He supposedly started engaging the toddler into adult matters, convincing her to first escort him to a friend’s place “somewhere in town.” On the way, the girl tells how Katongole’s left hand started straying into her southern region and before long, he was busy fondling her.
The pair checked into a lodge in a trading center which, the girl later identified as Kaleerwe, since she usually use Northern Bypass to and from Namilyango SS where, she studies from. She tells police that Katongole defiled her for over three hours.
Indeed, the brother, a resident of Kakajjo zone in Bweyogerere waited for her in vain. It was long after 4PM that she reached him. Suspicious, the brother grilled the girl and it didn’t take long for her to reveal. After all, she was all pain down her private province.
She told the brother the entire story, surrendered Katongole’s number which he had exchanged with her and the Shs20, 000 he gave him. On calling the number, Katongole appeared on the receiving end. The girl’s brother engaged him and tasked him to sort out the matter before police could be alerted.
Katongole is said to have ignored the calls, claiming he had no idea what they were accusing him. But yesterday, he drove to Bweyogerere with a view of negotiating with the girl’s relatives.
However, during the meeting, Katongole revealed that he had only Shs220, 000 to his name. Sensing he had no plans of raising enough dimes to settle the matter, the girl’s brother called in police and hence the arrest.
CP Fred Enanga, the chief police mouthpiece revealed to the Investigator this evening that Katongole has secured a police bond, pending the police surgeon’s report. However, in-house experts suggest that the stance between when the offense was allegedly committed to when the medical tests are made could be too long for evidence to be still intact.
“Even if the Hymen was ruptured, it is long enough for the scars to heal. And it could be hard to confirm that Katongole is responsible for the scars,” our expert noted.
A Habitual Cheat?
Katongole is not new to sexual crimes… Actually it is the only reason he has found self on the wrong side of the law always. Around October in 2013 while still a Programmes Director at Beat FM, he was caught pants down with a city lawyer, Charles Ssenyimba’s wife, a one Namagembe.
Ssenyimba had tracked his wife’s call records with Katongole for some time. It appeared that the cheating couple had hooked up during Katongole’s morning talk-show. His arrest in a Nansana-premised lodge landed him a thorough beating before he was produced to police.
